I’m a photographer in Menlo Park, California. I sell fine art photographic prints taken in Northern California, and around the world, featuring wildlife, natural landscapes, and portraits of the people that inhibit the world. I also enjoy photojournalism and action photography, and I’m available for hire - I can capture an environmental portrait of you or your family, or take breathtaking action photos of your kids playing sports.

Who am I

I’ve lived in Menlo Park over 30 years, having raised 3 children in a wonderful, vibrant community, filled with diverse people, surrounded by natural beauty. I’ve done photography since high school, when I attended the “Regional Summer School for the Arts” (RSSA) in Eastern Pennsylvania, on a scholarship for 2 summers. I started out doing film photography and old fashioned darkroom printing, and I’ve continued into the digital revolution of photography. I now specialize in very high resolution digital photography, using a state-of-the art 45 megapixel mirrorless camera, and I print my own fine art large format digital prints, up to 32” x 16”.

In an era where everyone views small images on a laptop, or a small phone screen, I’m on a mission to bring you the experience of ultra-high quality detail in a large print. From afar, enjoy the beauty of the composition and colors of a print. But step closer, and experience close up detail, that only the state of the art high resolution photo sensors, lenses, and printers can bring you.

I’ve done everything from photojournalism and yearbook photography, to action and sports, portraits, wildlife, and nature. I’ve enjoyed documenting my own family’s lives, and I’ve volunteered to photograph my kids’ sports teams as “team photographer”. Just last fall I shot over 20,000 action photos of my daughter’s varsity high school tennis team, and published the best 400 shots in an album for the kids and parents.

My photographic style is very diverse. For people-photography, I enjoy doing portraits in the raw, revealing, and detailed style of Richard Avedon, or doing environmental portraits like Arnold Newman, or capturing motion in that “critical moment in time” like Henri Cartier-Bresson. I also like to apply the diverse styles of these photographers to wildlife photography.

For 30 years my “day job” was as a computer engineer in Silicon Valley - I was a microprocessor chip design engineer and manager, having worked at companies like Sun Microsystems/Oracle doing SPARC CPU design, ATI technologies doing graphics GPU design, and a couple start up companies along the way. You’ll find on my portfolio page 2 macro photos I took of microprocessors I worked on at Sun/Oracle. My last job was senior manager of the CPU CAD design methodology team at Oracle, and I retired in 2016 to be “stay at home dad”, and focus more on family, and photography.
